A transportation management system (TMS) was created for a transportation company in Kenya. It should allow assigning cargos to drivers, reviewing their route progress, managing cargo and trip data, allocating transportation jobs to drivers, etc. The system had to provide stable operation in the conditions of the African continent with low internet connection.

Transportation Business Challenges
The company needed a single transport management system dashboard to manage its cargo deliveries, selecting and assigning drivers, reviewing employees and their details, as well as its assets, and for reporting purposes. It could allow the company to improve its processes, reduce costs, optimize logistics routes, track time and funds spent on the routes, and manage workforces efficiently.
TMS Solution
The TMS software development process began from the design stage, where our company created the web app design from scratch. As for the systems of that kind and purpose, design was minimalistic, with screens performing as dashboards with tables containing relevant data. The colors for dashboards are mostly white and gray, with bright red for buttons. This allows for focus on important details without distraction, and clearly shows the necessary buttons for selection.
The system’s design is responsive and adaptive, available on mobile and tablet devices to allow system utilization on a trip.
During TMS software development, our engineers used stable technologies, such as Vite and React.js, alongside Typescript for frontend development to provide seamless system operation and prompt request processing.
Core TMS Features
Custom-built TMS software for logistics allows the company’s managers:
- Add jobs for cargo transportation;
- Allocate jobs to drivers;
- Track cargo delivery on its way;
- Review the analytical dashboard with charts;
- Add and manage company employees to the system;
- Add and manage information on the company’s assets — trucks, trailers etc;
- Create and review reports;
- Add information on spare parts necessary;
- Add information on truck or trailer repair works;
- Manage financial issues.
Project Outcome
The company operates a transportation management system for logistics, with all necessary data managed through it. The processes became traceable more easily through an automated approach; calculation of time and cost is more accurate.
